The Referral Centre in Tauranga has a expert care vet that treats all types of exotic pets. We understand that whatever pet you have, their health and well-being are not only important to you but us. Dr Martin Earles has over 28 Years of Veterinary Experience and 12 years with exotic and avian pets.

Rabbit and Rodent Consultations
Our Rabbit and Rodent consultations include rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats and mice.
Do you have a health concern with your furry pet or want a health check for peace of mind? We cater for one or more pets.
A standard consultation will take 30 minutes for one pet and 15 more per additional pet. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to complete some paperwork.

Avian Consultations

Do you have a health concern with your feathery pet or backyard chooks, or want a health check for peace of mind?
We cater for one or more pets. A standard consultation will take 30 minutes for one pet and 15 more per additional pet. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to complete some paperwork.

Rabbit and Rodent Dentistry
Dental examination and treatment of Rabbits, GPs, chinchillas & rats.
Teeth problems are common in rabbits and rodents. Continuously growing (elodont) teeth often don’t wear properly, especially if malocclusions are present or insufficient hay is eaten. We can diagnose and treat these problems with the help of endoscopy of the mouth and radiography (xrays). Computed tomography (CT) scans can be performed at The Referral Centre – Hamilton if required.
Crown reduction and extractions with specialised rabbit/rodent equipment can be utilised to remedy any dental abnormalities.

Reptile and Amphibian Consultations
Our reptile and amphibian consultations include all lizards, turtles, tortoises, axolotls and frogs.

We cater for one or more pets. A standard consultation will take 30 minutes for one pet and 15 more per additional pet. Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to complete some paperwork.
For aquatic pets, please bring a sample of water from the aquarium; 20-30ml is a good amount.

Rabbit and rodent desexing

Desexing of rabbits and rodents is essential to help prevent reproductive cancer and behavioural problems.
Guinea pigs, rats, and male rabbits can be desexed from around three months of age and female rabbits from 6-7 months.

Rabbit Vaccinations
Individual vaccinations for all strains of rabbit caliciviru
Dr Martin Earles is a member of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the Association of Avian Veterinarians – Australasian Committee.
